The Plug:

The DECT Plug B1 is a cordless RS232 data radio connection for connection to the USB-Port of your PC. The device will be connected to the USB on your PC. For the radio link, the DECT Engine MD32 data radio module by Siemens AG is integrated. The range of the DECT Plug B1 is approx. 300m in the open field and approx. 50m in buildings. The DECT Plug B1 is laid out as a full speed device with a maximum data transmission rate of 12 MBit/s (USB-Version 1.1). The ready status of the device is indicated over LED. The USB connection will be addressed and also configured as a COM interface (virtual COM-Port). The maximum data transmission rate is 115,2 kBit/s.

Usually the current supply happens over the USB. For specific cases of application (e.g. a not sufficient current consumption over the USB), a plug-in power supply can be connected ( 9 DC / 300 mA ) additionally. The DECT Plug B1 has two internal aerials. The case consists of shock-proved polystyrol (light grey/dark grey). Measures (H x W x D): 125 x 67 x 32 mm. An optional mounting for the wall is available. The DECT Plug B1 can be operated with a temperature of  0°C - 40°C.

Installation:

The USB cable normally has a maximum length of 5 m. Optionally, by using active USB cables, a distance of up to 25 m can be bypassed.

The plug functions with all operating systems which support a USB connection on a PC PocketScan
(Win98, WinME, Win2000,
WinXP).

Operation Area:

The DECT USB Plug B1 is especially suitable for mobile use with notebooks in marketing and warehouse management. With simple plugging of the USB plug a radio link is made available without the need of an additional power supply. An example is the controlling of stock on hand with the PocketScan (see under Wireless Scan).

DECT

A DECT connection consists of a fixed part (FP) and a portable part (PP). 16 PP's belong to one FP. The 16 PP's are connected to each other as a group by a log-in procedure. After this a data connection can be created between FP and PP. The group also stays intact during a loss of voltage. In our applications we use the DECT Engine MD3x by Siemens AG:

DECT Radio Module MD32

MD 32 is the classical DECT Engine for wireless connection over radio of RS232 interfaces. The maximum rate of data transfer is 115,2 Kbit/s. The point to point configuration has in many devices substituted cable, IrDa or analogue radio standards. With the ambitious server mode new 'point off sales' applications were made possible to be created for new product ideas.

Three operating modes can be set:

            V.24 Replacement PP (Portable Part)
            V.24 Replacement FP (Fixed Part)
            V.24 Server FP (Fixed Part)

For a point to point data transmission one module must be configured as a terminal device (V.24 Replacement PP, portable part), and a second as a  basis station (V.24 Replacement FP, fixed part).

  • configuration of module over AT commands

  • dour different configurations storable

  • terminal device can log itself onto six basis stations

  • logging on of up to 16 terminal devices onto one basis station possible

  • basis station configured as a V.24 Server FP can serve up to 16 RS232 connections of which 4 can be simultaneously active

  • automatic set up and dismantling of the connection dependent on data traffic

  • internal error correction protocol guarantees a bit error rate of < 10^-8

  • certified according to DECT-Standard CTR6

  • secure data transmission over a reserved frequency band, data saving protocol  (LU10 Standard) as well as data encryption
